A new cultural space has opened just a few steps from Charles Square – J.A. Gallery MAT. The gallery builds on the tradition of a place that once housed the MAT café and video rental store, giving it an entirely new purpose.
We want everyone to feel welcome here – whether you visit galleries regularly or simply stop by out of curiosity.

J.A. Gallery MAT is a new space dedicated to art. You will find us in a building that has long been home to the MAT restaurant and cinema.
The gallery now joins them under one roof, creating a place where film, good food and contemporary art come together.
What Was Here Before?
The gallery was created in the former premises of the MAT café and its legendary video rental store. A place where a love of film was once shared now provides a setting for painting, photography and other forms of art.
